Gayle Schrier Smith, M.D.

Dr. Smith has served the healthcare needs of children in Richmond for more than twenty years. She is a native of Pittsburgh and a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia. She completed her internship and residency at the Children’s Medical Center at VCU-MCV (which is now the Children's Hospital of Richmond.  She is board-certified. and is also a fellow and spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics.


She is married to an amazing chef and mechanical engineer.   There are four kids who often show up for dinner and call her 'Mom' when she most needs to hear the sound of their voices calling her favorite name.

    Someday she will go back to driving her all time favorite car, a miata, but until then… she sometimes misses the station wagon years.

    Dr. Smith’s idea of camping is a hotel in the woods!  She'll tell you she thinks fish is great for dinner, but not if you have to bait a hook with worms to have it!

  • She grew up in a big family, married into a bigger family, and has five children of her own.

    Three boys and two girls born over  ten years!  And how those years flew by!  She'll tell you, "hug your kids every day, and never forget to wish them a good night and sweet dreams."

  • She has a degree in Physiology and Biophysics.

    Dr. Smith decided to go to medical school after studying free-radical biophysics and network thermodynamics.  Some days, she'll tell you those are easier than teaching a toddler to poop in the potty.
